General Update

23/08/2010 01:03 - Frankish
A late and much needed update from me this month.

I have completed a few new backend updates and enhancements to further improve stability and overall performance of the site, and added a new feature to my visitor tracker - the ability to turn it off! The tracker which was secretly built into the site's inner workings was performing so well, I had to disable it. I also added a security feature to it so that anyone who isn't me can't view it.

Although not publicly, I have been slowly making progress into my new Moodle project, I've had a few interested parties who include schools, businesses and private owners.

MMB Support is still freely available, and I would suggest migrating here as the main MMB Forums seem to be down for the count until further notice.

That's it, stay tuned for more coming real soon!

Moodle Support Available

31/07/2010 20:01 - Frankish
Another month draws to a close and more updates to announce.
I now support installation and maintenance of custom Moodle installations. Incase your wondering, Moodle is a free-to-use VLE (that's Virtual Learning Environment) available to anyone wishing to start a new, or enhance and existing educational, or course based endeavour.

As always there have been some minor site enhancements too, starting foremost with the site banner - Various background images representing events such as Halloween, Easter and Christmas  to name but a few will appear just as google does.

As posted in the Website Development forum, I have done a fair bit to the site since it's first installation, and pretty soon development will stop to allow the community to grow a bit. phpBB will soon be releasing the newest editions of its popular forum software and that will be the next big update. But as far as aesthetics goes, I'm almost done.. Stay tuned for more info as the Twitter feed will become fully active this coming week :)

Website Update Pt2

18/07/2010 21:54 - Frankish
Good evening all you happy people.. and how do I know you're all happy? Because I found and fixed the culprit causing the scroll lag on the portal. The nasty little blighter was infact the DreamHost Logo in the news feed, for some reason, no browser on earth like the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format it was saved in, meaning the image either caused massive lag while it was in view, or just didn't show up at all..

Well it's fixed now, as well as a whole host of other features and fixes that went into the site's Admin Panel, I won't bore you with the details, but the update focuses on new features for you, and better control over those new and existing features from one nice and convenient spot. If you were lucky enough to remember the location of the downloads section (now the MediaStream) you will have noticed it going on and offline as I added / fixed some World Recoded exclusive media sharing software. Stay tuned as those updates will be activated soon!

xFire Support Added

09/07/2010 21:41 - Frankish
I have now added support for xFire users!
To use this new feature all you have to do is add your xfire username to your profile and select your icon type. All the hard work is then done for you and a link to your xfire profile is displayed under your avatar when you post.

If you have any problems using the new feature, you can either post in the support forum, or you can PM me directly.
Remember, I install mods as well, so if you like what you see, I'll be happy to help install it for you.

Emergency hosting for MMB Users

01/07/2010 21:31 - Frankish
World Recoded will be playing host to the former MMBForums users as their main community forums site is experiencing difficulties.
Any users migrating here will be met with nothing less than a warm welcome and much help as they need.

MultiMedia Builder got me started in programming, and it's only fair I repay the favour!
Several new sections have been created and they are free-reign for all registered users (standard site rules not withheld of course).

Twitter Support Added

26/06/2010 11:43 - Frankish
As website updates continue, I have found some time to add Twitter feed statistics to the Statistics Module.
It's only simple, pulling the number of subscribed users, which at the moment is 3, all of which are my own test accounts.

I will soon add direct subscriber link, but for now, I want to keep it under development until I'm confident it wont crash on me when I logoff for the night.
Other than that it should be up and ready for live subscribers very soon!

Green Hosting by DreamHost

20/06/2010 10:13 - Frankish
I am really pleased with my choice in web host, really.
They are a great bunch of people and I want to share that experience with my visitors.

Since moving to DreamHost I have had excellent customer support, been provided with numerous one-click install web software and more continue to roll in, service uptime is damn near 100% and reading their regular blog updates is always a joy.
Recently I discovered DreamHost are also a carbon neutral service provider, and use 100% Green Power (renewable energy).
So in recognition of that I have linked to their "About Us : We're Green" page directly from my front page.

The folks at DreamHost are very much "down to earth" and the amount of glitzy rubbish is actually non-existant!
Their site is simple, clean and gives you what you need, even when asking for support they offer various options from:
"Just a casual question, comment, idea, suggestion..." to
"OMG! EXTREME CRITICAL EMERGENCY!! EVERYTHING'S BROKEN! People are DYING!"
(which is a little over the top but gives you the sense that they are both fun AND professional which is always a good combo).

You are also able to set your general expertise when requesting help, again ranging from:
"Please explain everything to me very carefully" to "Overall I know my stuff, but I'm a little shaky in this area" and even "Not to be rude, but I probably know more about this than you!" Which as above, is an example of how fun but helpful these folks are..

I could write forever but hopefully anyone reading this and looking to host their own site in future, considers DreamHost, I HIGHLY recommend them!

Updating Website Theme

29/05/2010 00:08 - Frankish
As you may notice, I am currently working on the portal for the site as well as a few other things.. The site has been widened, navigation on the portal has moved to the right, and extra modules have been added and will be worked on through the course of the day or until they are finished, which ever comes first.. These updates are ongoing so if you notice something out of whack, don't worry, it is on my list of to-do's.

Things that still need attention:
  • "Downloads" portal module needs to be completed, copy/paste with a few changes doesn't look professional.
  • Add GreenHost link "ad" for DreamHost as viewable by guest only on the NavBar.
  • Design + add a Favourites Icon for the site (Long overdue).
  • Clean up the background image and shadows.
  • A series of portal banners needs drawing up, the generic banner is up but it is after all, still just generic.
  • Add a Javascript to rotate the banner images sequentially.
  • An article template needs creating for an up coming new feature.
  • Service Store with Paypal Integration needs creating for future use.
  • Forum List needs a revamp, it's ok for now, but could be better.
  • Add silent twitter feeds, and a twitter icon.

I have no set time frame for the above, but work is always ongoing and updates will be posted on completion.
